On the morning of January 23, 2019, the School of Humanities held a conference on teaching work in the multi-functional hall of the liberal arts building of Jiulonghu Campus. The participants included President Wang Jue, Secretary Li Tao and other leading members of the School, deputy directors of teaching departments, members of the school's teaching committee, new teachers of the School in the past three years, all-English (bilingual) teachers and undertakers of ideological and political projects at the school level. The conference was chaired by Vice President Qiao Guanghui.
The conference further improved the school's teaching system. Li Tao, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Teaching Committee of the School of Humanities, stressed the importance of teaching work, reviewed the shortcomings of the past work of the Teaching Committee and put forward ideas for optimizing the management of the School. Based on the actual situation of School of Humanities and the new characteristics of education in recent years, Secretary Li Tao elaborated on the adjustment principles of the Teaching Committee of School of Humanities, proposed further adjustment and optimization programs, and proposed the establishment of the teaching supervision group of School of Humanities. Subsequently, all the participants voted on the adjustment plan of the teaching committee. Of the 35 participants, 33 voted for it and the adjustment plan was passed overwhelmingly.
The conference discussed the leadership and membership of the teaching committee, and selected Professor Wang Huabao as the director of the Teaching Committee and Professor Zhang Tianlai as the leader of the teaching supervision group. Professor Wang Huabao made a speech on his appointment and put forward a vision for the future teaching committee. Professor Zhang Tianlai emphasized the importance of personnel training and teaching work, pointed out that teaching is the key direction of future work, and proposed that the supervision of teaching work is an important part of the teaching supervision group in the future.
The conference summarized the teaching work in 2018. In order to further improve the teaching quality of our School, Qiao Guanghui pointed out that the School of Humanities should continue to do a good job in the declaration of various teaching projects, strive for the increase of the number of teaching projects at and above the provincial level, focus on completing the demonstration of new undergraduate training programs for five undergraduate majors in our school, further clarify the main professional courses and thematic seminars and build influential online courses. According to the requirements and plans of the school for teaching work, he put forward the action plan for the first-class undergraduate education of the school in 2020, and made concrete assumptions on the construction of curriculum group and brand specialty by the school-enterprise cooperation.
The conference also made a special discussion on the specific teaching work of the school. Pang Junlai, a teacher from the Department of Philosophy, as a representative of excellent teachers, shared his experience of participating in the teaching contest for young teachers, and He Haoping, as a representative of teachers who went to the United States for training, shared his experience of learning and communicating in the United States. The experience of two teachers aroused the resonance of participating teachers, which is very inspiring for young teachers and all-English teachers to improve their teaching level. Professor Chen Aihua shared and discussed how to further implement and promote the ideological and political work of the curriculum. Chen Aihua made a detailed introduction from the following aspects: what is curriculum of ideological and political education, the characteristics, the cases, and the implementation. At the end, the problems needing attention in teaching and research were discussed. During the sharing, Chen introduced the application form and PPT which were well received by the judges in the project course, hoping to provide guidance and help for the teachers who apply for the course in the future.
The conference was summarized by Dean Wang Jue, who highly praised the results of this conference and made specific arrangements for the future development of teaching work in the school. She pointed out that talent training as the core and focusing on the connotation of development is the cornerstone of a greater progress of the School in the future. (Liu Ying)
