摘 要:未来人类的食物系统是怎样的?汤普森教授将从四种原型或视角来探讨明日食物的生产和分配方式。这四种原型现在都受到倡导,但它们在与技术联结的方式和与食物相关的价值上都有不同。众所周知,它们在满足城市中心的食物需求的工业化农业技术上获得了成功,同时由于使用技术手段而遭遇生态的、社会的和经济的可持续性发展的挑战,因此受到批评。汤普森教授的讲座将重点阐述这四种供应城市中心需要的原型所隐含的意义。
Introduction: What will food systems of tomorrow look like? Dr. Thompson will discuss four archetypes or visions for tomorrow’s approach to the production and distribution of food. All four are currently being advocated, but they differ in terms of the their approach to technology and in terms of the values that people associate with their food. They have been informed both by the success of industrial farming technologies in meeting the food needs of urban centers, and by criticisms that have been leveled at these technological approaches that challenge their ecological, social and economic sustainability. Dr. Thompson’s presentation will stress the implication of these four systems for urban centers.
主讲人简介:保罗·汤普森先后在纽约州立大学石溪分校获得哲学硕士和博士学位,现任美国密歇根州立大学哲学系教授,主要研究方向是技术哲学、环境伦理学,曾任美国农业、食物与人类价值学会主席(1991-1993),技术与哲学学会副主席(2002-2003)、主席(2004-2005)。主要著作有:
